Hey gang! It’s safe to say I left a little of my heart in Seattle. I think this city is so magical because it’s surrounded by giant green trees, water everywhere, ferry boats on that water that make you feel a little Grey’s Anatomy moment, and some awesome people . Last time I was here I got quite the tour, this time was more hanging out and spending time with people which was equally awesome if not better in my opinion. I also went out with my friends this time and the bar scene is really fun.
Night 1 Heath and I grabbed Thai from Krua which is just a block from her house in U Village. Chicken Pad Thai for 2!
My friend Heather is my best friend from high school and is the friend where I can be my TLC and coffee loving self with. I spent the first half of the trip with her. I learn a lot from her. She is patient and so calm, things I try and work on. Some of my favorite things we did together were try some FRESH seafood at a waterfront restaurant while taking about life with her friend Denise who is wonderful! These fish and chips were so fresh and hit the spot. I also got 1/2 sweet potato fries and 1/2 garlic which probably drove the waitress crazy but sorry I’m not sorry. I was totally craving this when I saw it especially since I can’t really get that in Glendale.
Plus some local Washington Chardonnay!
+ “The Cookie” from Metropolitan market shared with Heath. She ate the gooey inside and I like the crunchy outside- friendship goals?
We also spent a day on a ferry to Bainbridge Island where we walked around, read books drank coffee, and ate!
This was the Yo Mamma’s Turkey at Hitchcock Deli.
Dark Chocolate Mint from Mora Iced Creamery. Honestly, it was just ok. We also grabbed a coffee at Hitchcock later on and it was great!
I spent the last half of the trip with my college friend Allison who is super fun loving. I somehow found myself taking a jello shot with a unicorn hat on with her- totally normal. We also went on the most beautiful hike with her girlfriends (+ one boyfriend in the back there)!
Can we just take a second to look at the photo below. Just as we had reached the top it started raining mixed with snow so the mist was super refreshing and it made the scene super moody. The water was clear and I honestly have never had fresher air to breathe. Super thankful for this day!
We were REALLY not prepared for the hike in terms of food and ended up going almost 8 hours without food which left us nothing short of hangry at Chick-fil-a after. I was such a fan! I got the grilled chicken sandwich and waffle fries- all gone a little too soon but that’s ok sometimes. I’m not a perfect eater and sometimes I wait entirely too long because well, you can’t get food 3 miles up a mountain that you drove an hour to get to.
But like again, this hike!
The night before this Al and I went to her favorite pho place and I needed something fresh by then so this mango, basil, shrimp and peanut salad was perfect!
Another day I went to the Ballard Farmer’s Market and found the sandwich I fell in love with last time.
All local breakfast sandwich with a sausage patty (I think) , cheese, a fresh egg, and sprouts on the fluffiest bun + the best spicy jam and mustard! I split this with Heath. She met me for the market which was super nice. We also split the cookie below while walking around because sweet after a meal is a must for us. I picked up 1/2 pound of sweet peas to take on the plane with me too. AMAZE.
Last but not least, the whole week I was drinking Herkimer coffee and eating Ellenos Yogurt. I posted these a bunch on my story on Instagram but here they are in real life. Herkimer 16 oz specialty drip of the day + steamed hemp milk was my go to every. single. day. Also keep in mind I only payed about 3 bucks for that order and if that was a cute coffee shop in LA that would easily be 6 bucks.
My favorite flavor is hands down passion fruit but I had the marionberry and the mango this trip and they were both delish!
As far as exercise this trip I took that hike, walked everywhere that I could, and took a C2 Core Power class that I almost passed out in. Let’s just say that yoga + heat do not make for a happy Connie. Yoga + normal temp? Always.
On the food note. As a whole I definitely chose more more energy dense foods but that’s because I wanted it. I really had no urge for fresh salads and stuff like that and I just went with it. After lots of higher fat and sugar foods my body didn’t get bloated or uncomfy once, something I think a lot of people get scared about when eating out of their normal choices. I drank a lot of wine too and again, all fine! I came back to LA with a craving for those fresh foods and then and only then did I honor that craving. Your body is smart- denying it awesome travel food when you want it is not how it works.
I hope this gives you a quick little recap. Feel free to check out more awesome eats from last time I was there- I even give you a quick guide to Seattle!
