Hi hello! Back from a weekend spent with 3,500 teens through the YMCA’s Youth and Government program (I know it sounds so boring but I promise you it’s not) and I’m totally exhausted. I needed time to rest because I got sick the Wednesday before but this weekend was anything but restful. I’m still always happy to go because supporting my Y kids is one of the most rewarding parts of my life. There is something about feeling needed and appreciated that makes coming back and giving lots of hours totally doable. Usually the kids and life giving parts of these weeks balance out the lack of sleep and go-go-go mentality of the weekend but being sick totally messed that up. So here we are contemplating leaving campus to rest since my splitting headache is making every word that comes out of another human’s mouth feel like a splinter in my brain.
Friday we drove up leaving the Y around 9 am (ate a bagel with butter (6 am) and a yogurt and apple for snack (9 am)) and I ate chipotle around 1 pm on the way up to make sure I was fueled for a long evening. I had a salad packed in my bag for luch so I ended up eating that for dinner + some pasta that was provided for the kids.
Snacks were had + cookies from the Double Tree where we stayed all weekend. Those cookies are yum!
For breakfast Saturday, I jazzed up my oatmeal with a siggis whole milk + a PB packet I brought in my bag. I shared with my kids + advisors too!
I had 2 of these this weekend after not having them for years! I just totally forgot they existed and it was so nice to have a crunch after eating basically mush for breakfast both days. I’m a texture person so 2 mush days in a row was blah.
Lunch was a warm-ish burger from the Habit with lettuce for a bun because I like fries better. Some other advisors went on a food run and bless their hearts. I was hangry at this point so I was super happy to be eating this. I had to head to advisor duty at the conference for 3 hours after that.
Shared this churro with another advisor for a mid day snack around 4 pm. We had more stuff going on in the afternoon and I ended up playing some fun games with my kids at a break-super fun!
Dinner was BBQ chicken of GIANT proportions. This is probably 10 oz of chicken so I shared that with one of my kids and got 1/2 a roll too. Didn’t love the salad. Potatoes were awesome. That night was the dance and if you watched my story I’m sure you got a good laugh. I seriously look forward to these conferences for many reasons but the dance being one of them because 1- I love watching people dance and 2- I love dancing . All around so fun!
Sunday breakfast was more oatmeal + an egg!
I wish I could tell you about how awesome my kids are but I don’t post really any photos of the kids I work with on my blog! I can tell you that they are smart, unique, funny, and wonderful humans! I feel lucky to be able to see them grow.
