I’m not going to lie- it’s been a not so fun week and a weekend that was mostly filled with the physical feeling of stress that you feel in your tummy- like you can almost feel the cortisol coursing through your body. Yes, I’ve had wonderful great parts to my week but the several breakdowns left me feeling so emotionally drained, blog post-less and blah. I don’t share these feelings on this space for anyone to console me but rather to show you that feeling emotions is normal and healthy and we all have bad days or weeks and then we move on.
(Most of my dinners at school like this- main dish + raw fruit and veg- I like having ice cream or something sweet once I’m home and in comfy clothes)
SO-I’m going to recap starting Thursday evening since that was actually my favorite night of the week going into the weekend. I didn’t have to take class that evening so that meant I got out of teaching at 5:50 on campus and I could skedaddle over to Pasadena to meet Sarah for dinner. We haven’t been seing a lot of eachother with my semester starting and her work schedule so it was much needed. We went to Urbano a new to me restaurant. I was SUPER skeptical of the wine margarita but it was actually one of the best drinks I’ve ever had. You don’t taste the wine somehow and it tastes like tequila?
They don’t carry hard stuff at Urbano but this was basically the same thing. I ordered 3 different tacos- one pork, one fried potato, and one veggie. I reget the veggie and would have done another meat but it was still good I just realized what I really needed was protein and not carbs but oh well- I moved on. Sarah has decided on Villanova Nursing school and she told me that night and I was SO excited for her- proud best friend over here!
Friday was a great morning with my mom. Her and I went hiking to scope out Stuertervant Falls so I don’t mislead my hiking class when I take them there and it was wonderful. I’ll be doing a LA hikes post soon- I’m excited! I came back home, had a meeting at the Y, and had to take my car to and from the auto shop all before babysitting that evening.
After getting home at about 12:30 am and waking up at 6 am to get myself together to lead my class on a hike at Switzer Falls I was pretty tired but excited to get outside. Attendance isn’t mandatory for my class so the number of students who show up to hike always varies. I had a good number of students there and it made for fun conversation and hearing what all of them are studying. One of my nutrition students who took my class last semester enrolled in my hiking elective class this semester and it’s fun to have a familiar face!
The rest of Saturday was spent deep in reading articles. I made the somewhat silly decision to be the first student to present articles to all three of my graduate courses this week. I like to have things over and done with so I usually volunteer first rather than last for any and all assignments in school. I then babysat another family that night and the 9 year old and I made some cookies together!
I got home around 11:30 pm and crashed so hard. I got a solid 8.5 hours of sleep that night and woke up to go to mass with mom in the morning. I got some grading done, a mani pedi, a small workout, and headed to a super bowl party with friends to cap off the weekend. The innout truck was there so I was happy kid food wise. There were about 15, 20 somethings there that I’ve grown up with- the kids of some of the parents at the party and the rest were parents in our little Pasadena bubble that have known me and the other kids since we were teeny grade school and high school students. It’s always fun talking to parents because they make you feel so good about your life. They are so proud of you for being in grad school and for having a dream and for smiling at them and talking life and catching up. It totally calmed my soul a little to have some support and lots of warm smiles and hugs from people who enjoy watching you succeed- made my stress die way down and look at the big picture. There was wine too, so that helped, but mostly the great conversations!
(protein style because I had had like 3 slices of bread earlier and more bread sounded gross)
So here we are, the end of a blah week that ended on a high note. Excited for a fresh start this week!
