Getting dressed lately has been really fun! That’s a sentence that would have never come out of high school Connie’s mouth or really even 21 year old Connie. For as long as I can remember shopping has been hard because I used to have a lot of body image issues that would lead to breakdowns in the fitting room. I specifically remember one at J.Crew with my mom staring at myself in the mirror with tears rolling down my cheeks thinking my body wasn’t good enough. From me at 23 to me at 18, UGH CONNIE, your body is awesome.
What’s changed as of late? Acceptance! I’ve come to realize that my weight will typically cluster around my mid section and I have sort of bulky arms and that’s that. Me trying to restrict any food or go to extremes with working out is just plain not worth it- never has been and never will be. There is no person besides myself that needs to accept my body and I wish I knew that earlier. If someone judges me for enjoying food, enjoying exercise, and loving the way I look (albeit not anywhere near perfect) then they have some serious issues.
I am proud I have an able body that is strong and takes me places. I’m also most confident in that body in clothes that accentuate my best parts and maybe are a little flowy on the parts I’m not so fond of. I’ve found that I love tight bottoms as well as flowy bottoms and I stick to mainly flowy tops. Dresses can be tight till my waist then a flare out is preferred.
I bought this white top at Madewell the other day and it’s easily one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe. I can’t believe I haven’t had a piece like this before! Structured yet flowy and easy to wear. Here are my favorite ways I’ll be wearing it that make me confident in my bod.
I wore this to church the other day. Tight cropped J.Crew skinnies with the top, simple gold studs and my silver ring + last year’s Banana Republic sandals + the Madewell bag and a cute scarf!
I wore this yesterday! Shorts are high-waisted from Loft– super flattering and comfy for me + the top, slides, and same bag and simple Madewell jewelry!
Lastly, I love love my red power pants from Loft! I usually stay pretty causal for teaching lecture so these pants would only appear if I was presenting or shadowing after but they could be great to teach in too. Great business casual! These low heels are my LIFE.
Hope this gave you some outfit inspiration to dress for your body!
