Hi friends! I thought I would pop in and recap the weekend since this is what a busy weekend in my life looks like. Friday night I teach nutrition at the Y and finish around 6:15 pm, answer questions for a few minutes personally with members, and change out of business casual into zumba wear to make the 6:30 pm class. I seriously have so much fun in that class it feels like you are at a club with no make up on and in comfy clothes- winning. If you watched my stories you know that they played “Buttons” by the Pussy Cat Dolls and I just about peed my pants laughing. After zumba I remembered my friends were all out at a Brewery for the night and I drove super fast home to shower, put cute clothes on, touch up hair, and head out the door. I tried a new beer called Dona Neta and loved it. I really am not a beer person but I always expected my taste to change at some point in life. 3 years ago if you asked me if I liked wine I would say absolutely not. As we age our taste buds change and I love that! I was super happy to be with some of my favorite people.
Saturday morning started early around 7 am because I knew that would be my only time to get in some solid, quiet reading for class. I also need to have quiet coffee sipping and breakfast eating time before doing any work. I read up on community nutrition for the week, took a quiz, wrote an assignment, and got ready to coach my 2 soccer teams. I coached from 11am-1:30 pm. My favorite thing about coaching is that I have the ability to impact tiny humans in a meaningful way and the medium for impact is soccer. At the core, AYSO is a youth development program. Here they learn teamwork, confidence, goal setting, and really that they have a support system in their coaches, teammates, and parents. I also love the questions 4 year olds ask- I seriously think that’s the most hilarious age and they are so curious. I had one kid last year who made me laugh and smile every game with his curiosity in the world. Favorite question: “Coach Connie? How come mommies and daddies know everything?!”
Post coaching was lunch with dad at our favorite burger place called The Habit. I got a lettuce wrapped cheese burger since I wasn’t feeling bread and just wanted all the fries. I also saw someone with a soft-serve ice cream cone and I was like yup, that sound good. Sadly, I went and got the cone and it was super bland and icy. Threw that out. Just goes to show that some foods we think will taste amazing are just blah and there is no room for blah food in life. My craving subsided and I decided to just have a spoon or two of ice cream fom the freezer at home- way more satisfying.
From there I went home to shower and head to my mani-pedi before babysitting 5 kids. I love my self care time and take it very seriously. Plus, my salon gives the best massages so it really is an awesome hour and a half. I babysat from 6:30 pm-12 am and didn’t take photos of my food but I ate a whole bell pepper in the car ride over post nails, a few handfuls of Costco trail mix with studying (9:30pm-12 am) made myself a weird tortilla with 1/2 PB and J from their fridge and the other half with guac from the fridge + chopped fruit! I love the family I sit for- the kids are angels.
I went straight to bed after getting home and woke up at 6:15 am to get myself ready to lead my hiking class that I’m the instructor for at CSULA. We were hiking Switzer Falls and it takes a while to drive up there so I was out the door with breakfast of pancakes in my belly + lots of coffee by 7:15 am.
Click here for the written recipe! I have had these for a week straight and I still crave them.
Hiked from 8 am-10:15 am and ate a square bare at the 1/2 way point because it’s easy to throw in my backpack.
Home from hiking I got ready to drive to the valley to spend the rest of the day with my Oma. I try and get over there a few times a month to get her out of the house for the day. We had to make a dress return for her at Macys and we shopped around a bit and had lunch and a long talk about life. Getting old isn’t fun and I really try and empathize with her because I can only imagine what seeing and hearing about so much loss (friends/family and independence) does to a person. I try and spice up her life ya know?! So we got margs at 3:30 pm and a giant enchilada to share. She was really loving the chips so we got her extra to take home. I left my house around 1 pm and got home around 5:45 pm to meal prep and try and knock out some final bits of reading for my seminar in my night class I have Monday that I forgot about.
I got home and was totally exhausted. I think the lack of sleep and the go go go in busy weekends like this hits me on Sunday evening and it’s my body saying slow it dooooown Con.
I cooked this recipe for my lunches/diners + some pumpkin bread that I forgot about and let burn (still eating it though- I salvaged it). I then went into my DMs to respond to some of you and came across a horribly mean DM. I’ve never received hate like that before and it really hit me hard (I think exhaustion + mean = bad ). I totally cried it out for a while and then realized that not everyone is going to like me and I totally know that but receiving hate is never fun. I moved on but had to stop working and just decided to take the rest of the night to watch a funny TV show for 30 minutes and I would find time Monday to get my reading done. My head hit the pillow no later than 10 pm and I was up ready for a 13 hour Monday on campus. We have a brunch with our mentors starting at 8 am so another 6 am wakeup!
Hope you guys enjoyed your weekend and I’ll see you on IG stories this week!
